Our mission
The Pen Pal Project is dedicated to fostering meaningful connections among children across the United States. By uniting kids from a diverse range of communities, identities, interests, and backgrounds, we inspire new friendships by providing children a safe space to feel seen, heard, and valued through each exchange with their pen pal.
every child will RECEIVE a free pen pal kit!
As part of our mission to create an inclusive and accessible environment, our free pen pal kits will provide children with materials to help get them started with their letter writing.
We encourage pen pals to reach out if they need further support in supplying materials for their letters. We are always happy to help and want to make every child feel included!

Once you are paired with your pal, we will send a confirmation to the listed email from the registration form and send you your pen pal kit to get started!

Any kid between the age 4 and 14 may register to join the Pen Pal Project! We invite children of any community, identity, interests, and background to join our project.

We are very thoughtful in the pairing process! We work to pair children with kids of a similar age with similar interests. We also ensure that the pen pals do not have previous affiliation with each other, allowing them to create an entirely new and organic friendship.

We make sure your personal information is kept private and only your child’s name and address will be directly shared with their pen pal.
Upon registration, pen pals and adults must commit to respectful and appropriate communication to help maintain a safe and inclusive project. Inappropriate participation may lead to further action or removal from the project.
You may contact us at any time if you need to report any conflict or to request a new pen pal.

Every child will receive a free pen pal kit. This will include materials to begin their pen pal experience and to make the project an accessible opportunity for all children. Additionally, we encourage contacting us if you are in need of further supplies and we are happy to support.
